I want to bring my reborn baby doll with me to my grandmother's but i don't know what they would want me to do with her through security. I really want to hold on to her through the flight. What are the standards with traveling with a baby doll that is really special?

You'll have to put her through the X-ray machine, which means if you carry her in your arms, you'll have to put her in one of those dirty bins. I suggest bringing a carry-on bag to put her in - that way, you won't need to take her out of the bag, and she'll be in your personal care (no baggage handlers) the whole time.

Preparing Your Working Area For Reborning Baby Dolls

Preparation of the area you are using to form your reborn dolls is essential. Organisation is the secret to being prepared for every step of the reborning process.

 

You will need an enormous table or flat working surface to put your mixing plates, brushes and paints. The surface area needs to be freed from clutter and covered with a vinyl table cover that can be simply wiped over with a wet cloth for cleaning. A dowel rod board is also a crucial tool to have for drying and baking your limbs. Making this board is easy. At your local hardware, you'll be able to purchase a board of timber roughly 40cm by 10cm, and a dowel rod with a thickness of about 1cm. Cut the dowel into four pieces 15cm in width and uniformly space everywhere standing up with a gap between each of almost 8cm. Glue into a position and add a nail into the base of the board from the bottom to hold the dowel in place. Be conscious of this area when taking it out of the stove, the nail heads will be hot.

 

This board will serve you well as a stable rack to hold your limbs between layers, and will keep the limbs from touching each other when heatsetting your paint. Your brushes and paint need to be easily accessible and visible when mixing your colours, having these displayed at walking distance to your work-area will allow you to mix your paint quickly and keep the blend flowing.

 

Always have a substantial supply of toothpicks, cotton tips, tissues and sponges. These are consistently used in the reborning process to remove undesired detail or lighten heavy effects in your paint. Having them close at hand is vital when adding detail to creased areas. If you are working in the same area as your oven, you will need to open windows and doors to make sure you have airflow. Dependent on the kit you use, sometimes the smoke can give you a slight headache, unpolluted air is crucial.

 

When you've finished your heatsetting it is suggested that you turn your range up to an extreme heat to burn off any fumes that could be lingering. Reborning is a calming and extremely addictive pastime. Having the right area to make your reborns will add to the thrill of the craft, and keep you organised at the same time.
